The admissions are contained in a transcript released Monday of a hearing held at Guantanamo a week ago. VOA's Al Pessin reports from the Pentagon,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych].
According to the transcript, detainee Walid Bin Attash confirmed to a military tribunal that he was involved in planning and helping to carry out the two attacks. The document says a statement read for him says, "the facts of the operations are correct and his involvements are correct."
Later,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], according to the transcript, Attash himself answered a question from a member of the tribunal by saying he put together the plan for the attack on the U.S.S. Cole in Yemen a year and a half in advance.

Hundreds of detainees have been released as a result of these and other review proceedings, but that is not expected for Attash and 13 other alleged senior terrorists who were transferred to Guantanamo last year from secret American prisons in other countries.
Attash was the fourth of the new arrivals to have his hearing. Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman says three more were held in recent days,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], but those transcripts have not yet been released.

America is enjoying a prosperous economy right now. It's been a year since our lives were first turned inside out like this, but already some are beginning to forget,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they're beginning to party again,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], congratulating themselves for the progress made so far. Department store sales are packing the downtown areas again, and Kimpo Airport's passenger terminal seems to be back to normal. Drinking establishments are as noisy as they used to be, and on weekends highways are at a standstill with people on holiday. Rumors abound about W1 billion card games or golf bets. Who would believe that this is a country who's economy is being managed by the International Monetary Fund?

And both sides are talking tough as they prepare to start the legislative process all over again.
Rep. John Murtha Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice says the Bush administration could accept a revised bill that includes benchmarks or specific goals for the Iraqi government in areas ranging from the allocation of energy resources, to constitutional reform.

And church officials deemed his credit situation would pose obstacles to his decision-making abilities. It was a rare case in which an individual's credit card debt, rather than previous records of scandals or embezzlement,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], ended up hindering the appointment of a religious official.
Credit cards are both modern day conveniences and misfortunes. In Korea, there's a long line of people turning to the Credit Counseling & Recovery Service to resolve their card debts. One 31-year-old housewife was unable to repay a W4 million (US$1=W1,534) credit card debt after purchasing clothes and cosmetics and turned to a loan shark. She lamented later that her credit card debt had ballooned to W7 million. It turns out that the loan shark had asked her to entrust him with three of her credit cards and used them to raise cash through false purchase statements using her plastic. That ended up turning the woman into a credit delinquent.
The concept of credit cards, also referred to as the "third currency,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]," came about from the need to pay for meals. In 1949,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], American businessman Frank McNamara had a real tough time when he found out he forgot to bring his wallet after finishing a meal at a New York City restaurant. Based on that experience, McNamara created a credit card company the following year called Diners Club, which refers to eating out. Diners Club began operations in England and Japan in 1960 and spread throughout the world. The first credit cards in Korea were Visa Cards issued by Korea Exchange Bank in 1978 to people traveling outside of the country.

A total of 96.24 million credit cards have been issued in Korea, meaning every economically active Korean has around four credit cards. That's lower than the United States, where each person has 5.3 credit cards. Concerns have risen over a possible surge in the number of credit delinquents with credit card issuance nearing the 104.88 million level seen in 2003, just before the credit bubble burst. The U.S. government is limiting credit card issuance and loans to its citizens as the country is weighed down by the economic crisis. Efforts to deal with the surging default rates, American Express is even paying $300 as an incentive to each of its customer who cancels their membership.
