Pittsburgh Mills stores
LOL, the theatres aren't closing and the mall isn't anytime soon. Right now they're surveying the possibility of putting an indoor waterpark into the spot where there racetrack was supposed to go. Personally i'd be surprised if they actually built the thing, but considering zamias is still pumping money into the mall its a pretty safe bet that the place is not closing. Any rumors you hear about the mall closing (there are alot floating around) are false. I'm not sure how all these rumors got started, maybe people just like to see things fail.
It is a shame that our tax money was used to build this "mile of disappointment". Yes, there is a TIF andwe are forgiving taxes to build the Mills.
It's not likely that Zamias is going to build a waterpark given the state of financing for projects and the dismal state of affairs with the Mills retail.
It's not our responsibility to take our hard earned money to continue to support a mall that provides us with nothing in the way of goods that we want, desire, and need. Retail used to be exciting but sadly the Mills isn't. All your exhortations for support mean nothing if the merchants can't make sell goods that people want.
I don't think that people want the mall to fail but as every business owner agrees it is up to the merchant to have things that their customers want. You can't have a couple of cookie cutter department stores and stores for teeny boppers and think you'll have a successful mall.
I understand the merchants or insiders frustrations where they complain about the mall walkers or that people are conspiring to make the mall fail but it is the obligation of the mall operators and store owners to better understand their market and stock their stores with things that people want. I think the Mills is a horrible lost opportunitybad stores, a bankrupt developer, the wrong current operator, and they've managed to turn off the purchasers in the marketplace with the mix of stores and merchandise. I tried to give the Mills a chance but there is nothing there to buy. I'm sticking to Ross Park and Monroeville.
It's not just that, but once your brand image is hurt it's really hard to overcome that perception(look at circuit city). The mills puts out a confusing message about what there trying to be, and still lacks an identity. Yes part of this comes from the fact that its not a true mills mall, and is more of a hybrid mall. Once people get it in there heads that something is bad, its hard to change that. This is not something that can be easily fixed since it is extremely hard to find stores willing to move into any mall right now. They didn't capitalize on the publicity they gained from various things like the us open.
As of last week mall management is still surveying the possibility of putting that waterpark in. I don't think the waterpark should happen since I don't think it'd help them build up there brand image, but i'm not zamias and indoor waterparks have been successful in other places like erie. I also think bringing the home show back this year is a horrible idea.
Honestly they'd probably be better off knocking the place down and starting over, and hopefully get things right this time, but of course that isn't an option.
When Kaufmann's, now Macy's opened at the mall, I went looking for a Dooney and Burke purse for my daughter. After looking for some time, I asked a "clerk", and she stated that logisitics show that in the mills mall area the average income shows that their clientele cannot afford high end items like Dooney and Burke, Coach, etc. So, rather than buying that bag at the Mills, I traveled to Monroeville Mall to purchase it. Ridiculous!
So, I guess the people in this area, as their logistics reports shows, could use a Goodwill store!!
the mills mall has gotten a lot better and sears wet seal and brooks brothers haven't closed
i live in lower burrell and there isn't a lot for teens to do around here except bowling (wow so fun) and after school activities that are limited to certain grades.
the mills mall is good enough for what it is, and im sure there will be new stores coming soon. we could really use a hollister or abercrombie so we don't have to go farther to another mall. as a teen, i cannot drive all the way to monroeville to visit delia's or to ross park mall to visit build a bear, so what i have at the mills is good enough. i do wish they'd have something new; it is very limited. don't be so hard on the mall itself, but blame the owner. he sucks.
I was just up there a few days ago and noticed that more stores (Music for a Song, Forever 21) have recently closed down. The end where Tilt used to be is practically empty, with the exception of Dick's and that indoor golf place. I think it's a given that the mall needs more stores, but I think it could do better also if the food court selection was improved. There's no McDonald's or ChickfilA but too many Asian cuisine restaurants. Adding outlet stores will likely not work due to its proximity to Grove City and the Tanger Outlets in Washington, PA. Even the storefronts are tacky looking.
Maybe they'll flood the end by Dicks for the water park? I'll bet the water park never gets built. It's like the entry on the Mills site on Wikipedia that still talks about the Nascar track even though they had now intention of being a part of the Mills. At least they removed the part about Boscov's and Kohls thinking about moving in. I wonder why they haven't mentioned Goodwill in the Wikipedia entry?
Face it folks, the Mills is a dead mall waiting to happen. It's just a mile of disappointment.
I was there yesterday and dropped a few hundred dollars, mostly at Lowes. I gotta say, the service was terrible. There had to be over 50 people with their red vests and sweat shirts in the store with no more than 5 doing any work. One check out line in the store, a checkout person at the contractors checkout, one guy cutting lumber and one person that I saw stocking shelves. All the others were in small groups chatting. I spent at least an hour there, michael kors femmes, dropped almost $200.00 there but will never shop at Lowes there again. I can go to Lowes in Indiana or Butler if I need something from Lowes.
Stopped in Sears looking to price a dishwasher. It was like stepping into a foreign country. The only employees there were either oriental or indian. Nothing wrong with that except for the music. Something one would hear in Bangladesh or New Delhi. I won't be back there either.
Maybe the owners decided to take a vacation since business was slow, IMO. I also noticed that the Nestle Toll House place near Macy's was shut down, but with everything still up. I wonder if that closure was also temporary. Oh well, it's starting to look more like Century III with stores deciding to open or close when they feel like it.
